There was a treaty between the tribes of Khuza’ah and the Bani Hashim, and Ma’bab
told the Prophet (salla Allahu alihi wa sallam), “By Allah we feel great sorrow about what
happened to you and your Companions. We hope you will not suffer again.” Thereafter
the Prophet (salla Allahu alihi wa sallam) sent Ma’bab to cause dissension among the

army of Abu Sufyan to discourage them from any intent to launch further hostilities.
The concern the Prophet (salla Allahu alihi wa sallam) had about an impending attack
proved to be true, because it was learned that no sooner had the unbelievers rested they
started reproaching one another for not accomplishing their aim saying, “All we did was
to incapacitate their army and then we left them! There still remain among them some
men capable of persuading other tribes to rise up, side with them and fight us again. We
should return now and crush their army!”
On the other hand Safwan, Umayyah’s son tried to dissuade the Koraysh from riding
against the Muslims again saying, “O people, such an action is not wise. I fear that he
