Jonah and the whale 37:139-148
37:139 Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers.
37.139 وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
37:140 He ran away to the laden ship,
37.140 إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ
37:141 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast).
37.141 فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنْ الْمُدْحَضِينَ
37:142 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy,
37.142 فَالْتَقَمَهُ الْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ
37:143 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah),
37.143 فَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنْ الْمُسَبِّحِينَ
37:144 he would have lingered in its belly till the Day they are resurrected.
37.144 لَلَبِثَ فِي بَطْنِهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
37:145 But We cast him, upon the shore, and he was ill,
37.145 فَنَبَذْنَاهُ بِالْعَرَاء وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ
37:146 and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him.
37.146 وَأَنبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ
37:147 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more,
37.147 وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُ إِلَى مِئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ
37:148 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile.
37.148 فَآمَنُوا فَمَتَّعْنَاهُمْ إِلَى حِينٍ
